Not that anyone else is a fan of being sick, but I’m not either

So far this year, I’ve been to the gym once.  I’m not quite fulfilling that obligation I made to myself to run three times a week, right?

True story:  Last week, I was healthy on Friday.  I was sick until Friday, and I was sick after Friday, but on that one particular day, I felt pretty good.  I’m not sure what it is about 2013 so far, but today is the tenth and I’m finally getting back to 100%, so I’m guessing tomorrow will be the second day this year that I’ve actually felt like getting out of bed.

So enough complaining.  I am almost over it, and I’ve been fortunate to have a sweet girlfriend here to take care of me and to have a flexible schedule that allowed me to work a little harder the second half of the week to make up for the earlier disaster.  I managed to put together something resembling a dinner last night and woke up in time to make us breakfast today, so everything is pretty much back to normal.  Life’s good.

Not only that, but it’s over 40 degrees in early January in Ohio, so I’m stoked… and it’s going to be over 50 tomorrow and, if the weathermen aren’t liars, over 60 on Saturday.  What do all of those days have in common?  That’s right:  Grilling weather.  Burgers are on the agenda for tonight, and probably ribs on Saturday… still undecided for tomorrow.  Maybe steak.  More red meat!  (Sorry to my vegan friends… that’s one area where I don’t compromise.)

So the good thing about getting back to normal is that I get to take care of the things that have been bugging me, like cleaning my office and catching up on my financial stuff that has been sitting and waiting.  I have a girlfriend that loves Christmas shopping, so it’s a relief to know that’s over for about ten more months, and it already shows when I look at the credit card statements.  I love the girl, but you could feed a small town on her gift budget.  (Just kidding, Kristin.)

I haven’t had one of those sugary and caffeinated drinks whose name I won’t share because I don’t want to shill for a brand unless I’m getting paid.   Not since last year, anyway.  I’ve been craving it and I think that tomorrow may be the day I break down and go pick up a couple of them.  In the meantime, I have green and black tea, which are both far healthier but definitely not the same type of satisfying.  I need something to fuel my desire to blog every weekday, considering I already failed two days this week while I suffered with my pseudo-flu.

Tomorrow, I go back to the gym.  Since I didn’t get a chance to say it here, I finally ran my very first 5K last Friday on the treadmill.  It took me nearly 45 minutes, but I got through it, and my previous best was 2.5 miles, so it was a big leap.  If you’ll recall, my goal was to run it in 30 minutes this year, so while it’s definitely an accomplishment to get it done once, it’s going to be a bit of a push to cut off a third of my time.  I still think I’ll get there.

Anyway, that’s my life up until right now.  I just got a call that the girlfriend’s mother and younger sister are on their way and may get here before her, so I suppose I should get presentable and start planning sides for grilling.  If all goes well, there will be a blog post tomorrow on the Rage side.
